Japanese Unit 8 Lesson 6

["New" verbs:
kiru = to wear (from the shoulders down)
haku = to wear (from waist down)
naderu = to stroke (petting animals)]


dareka ga haiiro no seetaa o kite imasu:
Someone is wearing a gray sweater.
dareka ga aoi shatsu o kite imasu: Someone is wearing a blue shirt.
onnanoko tachi wa kuroi sukaato o haite imasu: The girls are wearing black shirts.
otokonoko wa kuroi inu ga imasu: Boy and black dog (?)

dareka no sweater wa haiiro desu: Someone's sweater is gray.
dareka no shatsu wa aoi desu:
Someone's shirt is blue.
onnanoko tachi no sukatto wa kuroi desu: The girls' skirts are black.
otokonoko no inu wa kuroi desu: The boy's dog is black.

[Note: mono = thing ]
kono shatsu wa otokonohito no mono desu:
This shirt is the man's.
kono shatso wa otokonohito no mono dewa arimasen: This shirt is not the man's.
taiko wa otokonohito no mono desu: These drums are the man's.
inu wa otokonoko no mono desu: The dog is the boy's.

kono booshi wa onnanohito no mono desu: This hat is the woman's.
kono booshi wa onnanohito no mono dewa arimasen: This hat is not the woman's.
kono shatsu wa otokonoko no mono dewa arimasen: This shirt is not the boy's.
kono shatsu wa otokonoko no mono desu: This shirt is the boy's.

inu wa otokonoko no mono desu. otokonoko no petto desu: The dog is the boy's. It's the boy's pet.
inu wa onnanohito no mono desu. onnanohito no petto desu: The dog is the woman's. It's the woman's pet.
kuma wa dare no mono demo arimasen. petto dewa arimasen: The bear is no one's. The bear is not a pet.
ushi wa noofu no mono desu ga, noofu no petto dewa arimasen: The cow is the peasant's, but is not the peasant's pet. (farmer = noofu??)

kono doobutsu wa ookina petto desu: This animal is a big pet.
kono doobutsu wa chiisana petto desu: This animal is a small pet.
kono doobutsu wa petto dewa arimasen ga, hommono no ikite iru doobutsu desu: This animal is not a pet, but it is a real living animal (?).
kono doobutsu wa hommono dewa arimasen: This animal is not real.

onnanohito no booshi: Woman's hat
otokonohito no booshi: Man's hat
kono uwagi wa otokonoko no mono desu: This jacket is the boy's.
kono uwagi wa otokonoko no mono dewa arimasen: This jacket is not the boy's.

onnanohito wa inu o nadete imasu: The woman is petting the dog.
onnanoko wa inu o nadete imasu: The girl is petting the dog.
otokonohito wa neko o nadete imasu: The man is petting the cat.
otokonhito wa inu o nadete imasu: The man is petting the dog.

otokonohito no kasa wa kuroi desu: The man's umbrella is black.
otokonohito tachi no kasa wa kuroi desu: The men's umbrellas are black.
onnanohito no fuku wa aoi desu: The woman's clothes are blue.
onnanohito tachi no fuku wa aoi desu: The women's clothes are blue.

otokonoko no inu: Boy's dog

kuruma wa toori ni arimasu: The car is on the street.
kuruma wa koosoku dooro ni arimasu: The car is on the highway.
hashi wa koosoku dooro o yokogitte imasu: The bridge is crossing the highway.

dono hito tachi ga hodoo de jitensha ni notte imasu ka: Which group of people are riding bikes on the sidewalk?
dono hito tachi ga dooro de jitensha ni notte imasu ka: Which group of people are riding bikes on the street?
nanninka no hito ga uma ni notte imasu.hodoo demo uma ni notte inaishi, dooro demo uma ni notte imasen: Some people are riding horses. They are not riding horses on the street or on the road.
dono hito tachi ga hodoo ni ite nannimo notte imasen ka: Which group of people o n the sidewalk are not riding anything?

tori wa hodoo o watatte imasu: The birds are crossing the sidewalk.
hodoo niwa daremo imasen: No one is on the sidewalk.
otokonohito wa jitensha de toori o watatte imasu: The man is crossing the street using a bike.
otokonohito wa kurumaisu de toori o watatte imasu: The man is crossing the street using a wheelchair.

tori wa aruite hodoo o watatte imasu: The birds are walking across the sidewalk.
kare wa hashitte toori o watatte imasu: He is running across the street.
kare wa jitensha ni notte toori o watatte imasu: He is riding a bike across the street.

futatsu no tatemono no aida ni roji ga arimasu: Between the two buildings is an alleyway.
senro wa toori no ue o yokogitte imasu: The tracks are crossing over the street.
basu wa hodoo no ueo hashitte imasu: The bus is running over the sidewalk.
basu wa hashi no ue o hashitte imasu: The bus is running on the bridge.

otokonohito wa hooki de toori o haite imasu: The man is sweeping the street with a broom.
torakutaa wa dooro o haite imasu:
The tractor is sweeping the street.
otokonohito wa toori ni ana o hotte imasu: The man is digging a hole in the street.
kikai wa toori ni ana o hotte imasu: The machine is digging a hole in the street.

dooro wa jitensha ni notte iru hito de ippai desu: The road is full of people riding bikes.
toori wa hashitte iru hito de ippai desu: The street is full of people running.
toori niwa hotondo daremo imasen: There's mostly no one on the street.
hodoo wa hito de ippai desu: The sidewalk is full of people.

Japanese Unit 8 Lesson 4

This lesson is probably the one I've taken the least away from, and I'm confused about the grammar.

dosee: Saturn
Afurika: Africa
onnanohito: Woman
Chuugoku: China

kono wakusee wa dosee to ii masu: This planet is called Saturn.
kono hito wa onnanohito desu: This person is a woman.
kono kuni wa Chuugoku to ii masu: This country is called China.
kono tairiku wa Afurika to ii masu: This continent is called Africa.

wakusee: Planet
hito: Person
kuni: County
tairiku: Continent

[Note: For all of the "rareta, rarete" stuff going on... I have no idea what that was supposed to mean. Looking it up online told me that it was either super polite or that it was the passive tense.... so confused. That's why this lesson sucked and Rosetta Stone does too.]

kono wakusee wa dosee desu: This planet is Saturn.
kono hito wa onnanoko desu: This person is a girl.
akaku nurareta kuni wa Igirisu desu: The country that has been painted red is England.
kono tairiku wa kita Amerika desu: This continent is North America.

kono tairiku wa Ajia desu: This continent is Asia.
kono tairiku wa Afurika desu: This continent is Africa.
kono tairiku wa minami Amerika desu: This continent is South America.
kono tairiku wa Yooroppa desu: This continent is Europe.

Burajiru wa kono chizu dewa akaku nurareta kuni desu: Brazil is the country that has been painted red on this map.
Aruzenchin wa kono chizu dewa akaku nurareta kuni desu: Argentina is the country that has been painted red on this map.
Chiri wa kono chizu dewa akaku nurareta kuni desu: Chili is the country that has been painted red on this map.
Benezuera wa kono chizu dewa akaku nurareta kuni desu: Venezuela is the country that has been painted red on this map.

[Note: The rest of these are pretty redundant... I don't feel like typing them, especially since I don't get the nuances of what they say. I'll type the vocab.]

Roshia wa kono chizu dewa akaku nurareta imasu. Roshia wa Yooroppa to Aija ni aru kuni desu: Russha has been painted red on this map. Russia is a country in Europe and Asia.
